Bait

In the fourth episode of our mini-series, Ophelia is used as bait to catch Hamlet. The King, Queen, and Polonius think that he will break when he is confronted by his love, Ophelia. Hamlet meets Ophelia and has a conversation with her that turns into insults very quickly. Hamlet knows that he is being set up and he has to continue with his crazy act. He quickly makes her uncomfortable so she leaves and he is left alone with Polonius and Claudius spying on him. He really beings to plan out his revenge but is confused about what he should really do. His uncertainty brings about this speech to himself.
"To be or not to be, that is the question; Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing, end them."
What do you think the two "to be's" are and what do you think he will choose and why?

  1. I think that the two to be's are whether or not to kill Claudius. I think he will end up choosing to kill Claudius. The reason is that he cannot stand to even look at the King let alone leave him to live his evil life.

  2. I think the two to be's are whether Hamlet will kill himself or not. He is choosing between killing himself and ending his problems or living and avenging his father's murder. I think that Hamlet will choose to live and seek revenge for his father's murder because he feels the King should pay for what he did.
